What makes a candle "Christian"?

A simple guide to faith-based candles — what they are, where the long tradition of light comes from, and how to choose one that actually means something.

By Anna · Founder

It's a fair question, and the honest answer surprises people: a candle isn't "Christian" because of a sticker on the jar. You can print a verse on anything. What makes a candle faith-based is the heart behind it — the intention in the making, the meaning in the name, and the way it points your attention back toward God.

Light has always carried meaning

Long before candles were home décor, light was one of scripture's most enduring images for the presence of God. "Let there be light" opens the whole story. A lampstand burned in the temple. And Jesus said of himself, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life" (John 8:12). He turned the image toward us, too: "Ye are the light of the world… let your light so shine before men" (Matthew 5:14–16).

So when you light a candle with that in mind, a small ordinary flame becomes a quiet reminder — of hope, of warmth, of a God who guides our steps even through the darkest seasons.

What to look for in a Christian candle

If you want a candle that reflects your faith, here's what actually matters:

How we think about it

Our company name says it plainly. Anna is a child of God, and her desire is to walk in His light — in faith, in hope, and in love. Every candle is hand-poured in small batches with intention and a prayerful heart, and named around the theme of light. That's why we simply call them Christian candles: not because of what's printed on them, but because of what's poured into them.

You can read more about how Anna started — in a quiet season of healing — on our story page.

Choosing one that means something

Pick the scent you'll actually love to live with, then let the meaning be the quiet bonus. Our seasonal Joy To The World nods to the hymn; Lavender Fields is soft and restful for prayer or quiet mornings; Awakening Bloom is bright and hopeful. Any of them makes a meaningful gift, too — more on that in our Christian candle gift guide.
